A rare pair of opposing Chinese porcelain hat stands with Phoenix and quatrefoil piercings. Exquisitely decorated in a pleasing palette of colors typical of the period - Daoguang,
Mid 19th. Century (1782-1850)
Cylindrical in form, these gorgeous enameled stands have an opposing and continuous wrap-around scene depicting a phoenix perched on a rocky outcropping amongst flowering trees. Primary colors are: white, blue, yellow, red and green.
Marked with the Shende Tang Zhi hall mark on underside painted in overglaze iron red.
Fine pieces worthy of any collection. Acquired from a collector of fine antique Chinese porcelains who has amassed such over the last 40 years

Further Reading: Hat stands first appeared during the Jiaqing reign. Starting in the Daoguang period to Tongzhi these pots had holes cut into the cylindrical body to assist with airflow and general ventilation for hats.
From Guangxu onwards the quatrefoil holes disappeared.

Yuánsè shì: Báisè, lán sè, huángsè, hóngsè hé lǜsè. Dǐmiàn yǒu shén dé táng zhì, yòu shàng tiě hóng. Zhídé shōucáng de jīngpǐn. Gòu zì yī wèi zhōngguó gǔdǒng cíqì shōucáng jiā, tā zài guòqù 40 nián lǐ jīlěile zhèxiē chǐcùn:4.75ʺW × 4.75ʺD × 11ʺH yánshēn yuèdú: Mào jià zuìzǎo chūxiàn yú jiāqìng niánjiān. Cóng dàoguāng niánjiān dào tóngzhì shíqí, zhèxiē guànzi zài yuánzhù tǐ shàng kāi yǒu kǒng, yǐ bāngzhù kōngqì liútōng hé màozi de yībān tōngfēng. Cóng guāngxù kāishǐ, sì yè xíng kǒng jiù xiāoshīle.
