Description
M1 Carbine early National Postal Meter I-cut stock, high wood. It has the correct 2.4" tall oiler cut out. If it was not an original type 1 I-cut stock, this dimension would be 2.7". Ttimble TN stamped in sling well. All metal is there. I did source and install a NOS NPM butt plate. The recoil plate is also NPM.I cleaned it, put on a couple of coats of boiled linseed oil as they did when made and gave it a coat of paste wax. There are only a few very minor dings and tiny nicks that can be seen upon close inspection.
There are not any re-arsenal marks. There is a tight crack between the sling well and butt on the left side. This is a common weak point. It was repaired at some point with a couple of brass pins as was often done by an armorer or at rearsenal. After decades it is still solid, so it isn't something that i would be concerned about if I were going to use it. I can not detect any other cracks. The bridge is in tact and there is no M2 selector cut out.
According to my reference book, this stock is correct up to SN 1,490,000. NPM started at production at 1,450,000, so only 40,000 Type 1 stocks were produced. Most were damaged, destroyed, lost in battle, rearsenaled or cut to low wood. How many are left in this condition? You may never see another one. Dont miss the opportunity to get this is a 75+ year old very rare stock.
I have provided a detailed description and photos. Please look closely at the photos for condition. If any of this is concerning to you, please do not bid. Please ask any questions before bidding.
I will provide additional photos and information upon request.
