    Description

    Ammunition Chest, Cal. 30, M1A1
Original immediate pre-WW2 US GI Chest, Ammunition, Cal. 30, M1A1, aluminum construction featuring lid with brass piano-type hinge, two steel brackets on top for attaching handle, and single steel latch on front. Chest was originally painted OD green with stenciled nomenclature across front, had a brown leather handle on top, and reddish-brown fiberboard lining riveted inside--none of these features are present and the box has been cleaned down to bare metal. Steel brackets and clamp are rusty but will clean easily. Measures 16 3/4 x 3 3/4 x 6 1/4 inches. Box was adopted in the mid 1930s for carrying belted .30 ammo on the Phillips Pack Saddle and would be replaced by a steel version just before US entry into the war [this one is much harder to find than the steel version]. No dents, cracks or other damage to metal. Would make a great restoration project for your ammo box collection or Phillips Pack Saddle display and is in good condition. Any questions please feel free to ask.
